The Scotch Plains Fanwood Scholarship Foundation is now accepting scholarship applications from high school seniors and college students who reside in the Scotch Plains and Fanwood area.  The foundation plans to award more than $135,000 in scholarships through five different awards.  2012 marks the first time that this much money will be award by the Scotch Plains Fanwood Scholarship Foundation.

The five awards that will be handing out in 2012 are:

  • The Trina and Arthur Harrison Memorial Scholarship – Offers two $1,500 scholarships to a male and female Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School graduating senior who is a member of the school’s lacrosse team.
  • The William J. McGinn Memorial Scholarship – A $2,000 award will go to a graduating senior majoring in nursing.
  • The Girl Scout Scholarship – One graduating senior who is a female and a registered Girl Scout will receive a $500 scholarship.
  • The Carlo V. Sicola Memorial Scholarship – A $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior participating in the Student Leadership Conference and DECA or FBLA.
  • The PTA Council Scholarship – This $1,500 award will be handed out to a SPFHS graduating senior looking to pursue a career in a health and wellness field.

These five scholarships will join the many other scholarships offered by civic-minded groups and individuals, as well as Dollars for Students scholarships made possible by the Foundation’s fundraising efforts.  All application information and other scholarship assistance can be accessed through the Foundation’s website at www.spfk12.org.  Students interested in applying for one of these scholarship opportunities have until February 15th, 2012 to turn in their completed forms.  Over the past forty-five years, the Foundation has awarded over $2.2 million to students in the area, making it one of the largest education assistance foundations in the Scotch Plains-Fanwood area.
