Pennsylvania American Water recently announced it is now accepting applications for its 2012 Stream of Learning Scholarship. The scholarship program awards funds to students planning to pursue careers in the water and wastewater industry. The scholarship program is intended for students living in Pennsylvania American Water’s service territories who are studying specific subjects such as engineering and environmental science, which are critical to the water and wastewater business.
This year’s program will award $2,000 scholarships to ten students who meet the program’s criteria. To be eligible to win a scholarship, students must currently reside in one of Pennsylvania American Water’s service areas. However, student can be attending college outside of a service area so long as their home address still meets this requirement they will remain eligible for a scholarship. Applicants must also plan on attending a two year college, four year university, or technical school, as well as plan to study environmental science, environmental engineering, biology, or chemistry. Unfortunately, family members of Pennsylvania American Water employees are not eligible to receive one of these scholarships.
Winners will be selected by a panel of judges and will be announced in May. Students interested in learning more about the Stream of Learning Scholarship Program can pick up an information brochure from their high school guidance counselor’s office. Also, applications can be downloaded from the water company’s website at www.pennsylvaniaamwater.com. All applications must be postmarked by February 29, 2012 to be considered by the judges.
