Pensacola business leaders Quint and Rishy Studer recently announced they are starting a $1 million college scholarship fund that will help send deserving students to the University of West Florida or Pensacola State College.  The scholarship program will send an estimated forty students to college each year.  The Pensacola Pledge Scholars fund was announced earlier today at Pensacola High School.

Scholarships will be available to all students who graduate from an Escambia County public high school and plan to start college in the same year that they graduated.  Scholarship winners will receive $2,000 per year to attend the University of West Florida or $1,200 to attend Pensacola State College.  Students will be able to renew their scholarship every year, paying for a considerable portion of their college education.

The Studers, who own the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, the Double-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds, were looking to take an active role in their community by helping deserving students earn a college education and become Pensacola’s leaders in the future.  The Pensacola Pledge Scholars fund will change the lives of forty students forever by enabling them to earn a college degree they otherwise may not have been able to afford.

The scholarships can be combined with other forms of financial aid such as Pell grants and Bright Futures awards.  This will allow some students to receive enough money to cover the majority of their college education, making it extremely affordable during these tough economic times.  Students interested in learning more about this scholarship opportunity are encouraged to visit their high school guidance counselor or visit www.uwf.edu/pensacolapledge for more details.
