In a new program recently announced Kaplan University and Bridgepoint Education will take California’s community college students at a discount of 43% off normal tuition putting their tuition in-line with the community colleges’ cost. Since California’s public school systems are in a cash crunch this provides an opportunity for both students and Kaplan.

Students can continue getting a high quality online education without feeling the budget crunch and maintaining low tuition costs; while Kaplan University opens their doors to many more students they normally would not have access to. In addition to taking transfer students, Kaplan is taking Community College graduates who want to complete their Bachelors degree at a 10% discount on tuition.

If this program sees success in California we can expect to see expansion into other states. It looks like Georgia and Wyoming are close behind.
