Computer companies Intel and Lenovo are teaming up to offer $20,000 to one lucky student with the best college blog. The contest will focus on giving the award to a blog that focuses on achieving a certain goal of the writer. Ten finalists will be chosen, with the winner of the $20,000 being chosen at random from the ten finalists. The other 9 contestants will not go home emptied handed though as they will receive a $1,000 gift card for their efforts.
The blogs will be judged by how often they are viewed, how often a contestant posts and the overall creativity of the blog. “Whether your goal is to learn how to cook or travel cross-country we want to read why you chose to accomplish this goal and the steps you took to achieve it,” said Gus Schmedien, director of worldwide education at Lenovo. “We want to take the journey with you.”
Schmedien said the purpose of the blogging contest is to share in a student’s experience as they drive towards their own milestone. Examples of various blogs that students intend to create are providing details about the efforts of getting 70 people to sign up for a 5K marathon for cancer and relaying the accounts of trying various foods from around the world.
Getting students to turn to the web and detail the adventures they have while working towards a specific goal is a unique way to get them to work with technology. More and more companies and jobs are turning to the web, especially social media aspects such as blogging, that it is important for college students to learn these skills. This contest put on by Intel and Lenovo is a fantastic way for students to learn all about these emerging business tactics.
All students are encouraged to start a blog including graduate and undergraduate students. To enroll in the contest students can sign up at http://www.lenovoblogu.com as long as they have an e-mail address and attend a university in the U.S.
