If you are a college student with plans to earn a degree in accounting or earn your Certified Public Account title, you are encouraged to apply for one of the college scholarships being offered by the Illinois CPA Society. These scholarships, which can amount up to $4,000, are being funded by the CPA Endowment Fund of Illinois.
In order to be eligible for these scholarships students must meet a few criteria. Included in the eligibility requirements are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident currently living in Illinois and enrolled in an Illinois College or University, a minimum 3.0 GPA and plan on sitting for the CPA Exam and can demonstrate these intentions through a course of study.
All in all there are four different types of scholarships that will be rewarded. Each specific scholarship type comes with its own monetary value and restrictions on what the money can be used for. The Illinois CPA Society Accounting Scholarship will be $2,000 in value and awarded to senior standing or graduate students who demonstrate a financial need. The Herman J. Neal Scholarship will give $4,000 to several African-American juniors, seniors or graduate students who are studying accounting. The Illinois CPA Society Advancing Women in Account Scholarship will award $4,000 to high-achieving female students entering their senior or graduate level years. Lastly, the Textbook Scholarships will reward multiple students with $500 to cover their textbook and other curriculum expenses.
The deadline for these scholarships is April 1, 2011. Candidates are welcome to apply for more than one scholarship and can do so through the Illinois CPA Society’s website at www.icpas.org. Students interested in these scholarship opportunities may also visit the organization’s website to learn more about the various financial aid opportunities presented by the Illinois CPA Society.
