The Coleman A. Young Foundation (CAYF) recently announced it is accepting applications for the 2012 Coleman A. Young Foundation Scholars Program. The CAYF Scholars Program works to provide Detroit’s students with scholarship money so that they can afford a higher education. With so many students in the city of Detroit struggling to get a quality education, the CAYF is trying to do all that it can to help.
This will be the 30th year of existence for the CAYF foundation and it appears good times are ahead for the foundation and its scholarship program. Executive Director, Claudette Y. Smith, is encouraging all of Detroit’s graduating seniors to apply for the CAYF Scholars Program as each scholarship is worth $20,000, awarded at $5,000 per year over a four year period. The scholarship funds can be used to attend an accredited four-year college or university within the state of Michigan or an accredited four-year historically black college or university nationwide. The CAYF Scholars Program is supported by both individual and corporate sponsors.
The Coleman A. Young Foundation Scholars Program has been a huge success over the past twenty nine years. One of the major reasons for the program’s success is the unique mentoring program that accompanies the scholarship money. Not only do scholarship recipients receive enough money to pay for their college education, but they also receive guidance and tutelage from a mentor for the duration of the college education. This mentoring program is believed to be a major reason why 90% of CAYF scholarship recipients have graduated from college over the past twenty nine years.
Interested students can learn more about this exciting scholarship opportunity by visiting the CAYF website at www.cayf.org. Applications can also be found on the foundation’s website. The deadline to turn in all of the application requirements is March, 13, 2012.
