Citizens Financial Group recently announced the winners of its first annual TruFit Good Citizen Scholarship program.  The program awarded a total of $50,000 in college scholarships to twenty students in New England, the Mid-Atlantic and the Midwest.  The scholarships will help students pay for the upcoming semester as students return to classes after the holiday break.

The scholarship was created as a way to recognize students whose volunteer efforts have made a dramatic improvement in their communities.  One of the criteria used to determine the winners was the responsibility and leadership skills they demonstrated through their volunteer efforts.  The inaugural scholarship program was quite a success as over 1,800 students applied for the scholarships.  The grand prize winner will receive a $7,500 scholarship while the second place winner will receive $5,000.  The remaining scholarship recipients will receive $1,500 towards their college education.

Citizens Financial has always strongly believed in contributing to the health of their local communities and helping student reach their goal of earning a higher education.  The TruFit Good Citizen Scholarship brings both of these ideals together as Citizens Financial will assist students that volunteer in their community with scholarship money to help cover their college finances.

In addition to helping students realize their academic goals through the TruFit Good Citizen Scholarship program, Citizens Financial offers a variety of financial tools designed to help students make a successful transition to college.  Among the tools offered by Citizens Financial are online links and calculators, student checking and student loan options.  In fact, Citizens Financial recently launched its TruFit Student Loan product that comes with a fixed rate option, providing students a financial blueprint of how much their monthly payment will be once they start repaying their student loan.
