The Carroll Electric Cooperative recently announced that it has created a new college scholarship that will be awarded to the children of its members. These high school seniors are eligible to apply for scholarships totaling more than $36,000. This new scholarship program is broken down into two separate competitions. The first competition, known as the Carroll Electric Scholarship Competition, will award $4,800 in college scholarships on a local level. Carroll Electric will provide three scholarships each for both the boys and girls divisions. First place winners in each division will receive $1,200. Second place will receive $800, and third place will be given $400. The first place winners from each division will advance to the Ohio Rural Electric Cooperatives Children of Members Scholarship Program, where they will compete for an additional $24,800 in scholarship money.
In addition to these two scholarships, qualifying students are also encouraged to apply for the Ohio Rural Electric Cooperatives, Inc. Touchstone Energy Achievement Scholarship. This scholarship program is designed for students who have overcome adversity, obstacles or personal challenges in their lives. This program will award four $1,700 scholarships.
If students attend a school within the Carroll Electric territory, they can pick up an application at their high school guidance counselor’s office. Also, students can obtain an application by contacting Carroll Electric directly at 330-627-2116 or visiting their website at www.cecpower.coop. All applications must be received by February 1, 2012, and handed in the Carroll Electric office.
To be eligible to receive one of these scholarship awards, students must be the son or daughter of a Carroll Electric member receiving service at the time of the competition. Also, applicants must have all basic credits for college or proper vocational or technical school entrance. The scholarships will be awarded in the next autumn semester or quarter.
