The Air Force Aid Society recently announced that they will be awarding up to 3,000 college grants to the dependents of specific Air Force personnel to be used during the 2011-2012 academic school year.  The eligible dependents for this scholarship include children of active duty, Title 10 reservists on extended active duty, retired, retired reservists and deceased Air Force members.  Spouses of active-duty members and surviving spouses of deceased Air Force members are also eligible for the grants.

In order to apply for the grant students must be enrolled full-time at an accredited college or university during the 2011-2012 school year and maintain a 2.0 grade point average.  Applications for the $2,000 grant can be completed on the AFAS’s website and must be received by March 11, 2011.

According to 97th Force Support Squadron Air Force Aid Society officer Kenneth Morrison, only 11 people applied for this grant last year and 10 of those people were approved for the $2,000 college grant.  To not apply for this grant would be a foolish mistake on the part of anyone who has a family member in the Air Force and will be attending college on a full-time basis next year.

The $2,000 grant will go a long way to helping the families of Air Force personnel obtain the college education they need to succeed in the increasingly competitive job market.  More employers are looking for applicants with a college education which is why more people are heading back to school to earn their degrees.  The Air Force Aid Society has been providing emergency and education assistance to Air Force families for almost 70 years.  This increase scholarship amount is just another of the many ways that this non-profit organization helps the families of Air Force personnel during tough times when the families need help the most.
